Traditionally this blog has been nascent and a bit of a dumping ground for various ideas. It will still be that in 2017, but hopefully much less so!
#SoftwareUnderTheHood is one of my 2017 new year goals–A series of posts focusing particularly on data and database systems “under the hood,” delving into design decisions, code implementations, and how they fit into the goals various systems were designed to do. My hope is to feature both classic systems (e.g., Postgres) and modern systems (e.g., Node.js) in the hopes that we can learn from how these systems were designed in order to be better users and software system builders. I find inspiration in Adrian Colyer’s Morning Paper, but hope to focus on a smaller subset of topics and in greater depth, yet still have it be accessible for a beginner-level technical audience.
